Repairing Industrial Roofing: A Guide

They are different from residential roofs. Industrial buildings can house many different types of goods, which may require specific temperature control or other accommodations. It is important to learn about industrial roofing and other roofing techniques that can be used for this purpose.

Industrial roofs are commercial buildings of large scale that need more protection than ordinary homes. These structures are required to protect goods in a variety of environmental conditions (e.g. humidity levels and ventilation) as well as sensitive materials stored in warehouses.

Let’s see what types of materials are available for industrial roofing repair.

TPO

TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single layer membrane that’s applied on the roof’s exterior. It comes as sheets 10 to 20 ft wide. Some flat roofs can withstand heat welding, which can make it last up to 15 year.

Tens and thousands of rolls of Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO), a white waterproof material, were being placed by robotic arms. The work was part of the summer’s $100million renovation project.

Modified bitumen

Modified bitumen (also known as torch-down roof) is a single layer membrane used on flat roofs. This single-ply membrane contains several layers of adhesive with fiberglass or polyester reinforcement. A top layer is reinforced rubber that has been heated to become flexible before it’s rolled onto surface and covered by gravel to protect UV rays. These roofs may be applied to many existing types, including concrete tiles, metal sheets/panels, and wood shingles. They are designed so that flexible materials can be used in extreme heat conditions. This is unlike other membranes which may melt or crack if they are too brittle.

Built up roof

Built-up roofs, or BUR as it is commonly known, are a good choice for buildings with flat roofing. They have been around since the 1800s. You can use multiple layers, which may include tar, asphalt materials or fabrics like polyester fabric/fabric/like combination. Gravel is added to make it waterproof. However it requires high maintenance due to its reflective nature.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing is frequently used on pitched industrial roofs. Metal roofing is available in many materials including aluminum, copper (tin), stainless steel, and stone-coated. Metal panels can be made in many colors and patterns today. These metal panel systems are durable with strong rust resistance properties. Metal panels can attach using hidden fasteners or an exposed fastener system. These attachment methods work better than those without visible nails.
