Are Pest Control Chemicals Safe For Pets?

Jul 8

When it comes to the health and safety of your pet, we know you're not messing around. We know that you love your pets because we also love ours! In order to protect them, our animals depend on us and that is something we take very, very seriously.

Pest control can be efficient as well as pet-friendly. We do this by ensuring that we are all on the same page and collaborating to create the safest environment for your pets. Let's take a look at three of the most important questions we get regarding pets and pest control in order to get the ball rolling:

Is pest control pet-friendly?

Clearly, on the one hand, neither our animals nor we should trot around intentionally ingesting products for pest control. Fortunately, pest practitioners carefully select and combine products into certain proportions. While our formulated treatments are very effective against unwanted teeny-tiny creatures, mammalian folks are pretty benign to us. Reptiles and other creatures have different sensitivities, so we have carefully crafted our policies (more on that in the next section!) to prioritize their safety.

Now, what if we told you that not only is the right kind of pest control safe, but actually helpful for your pets?

It's true, for us and our various four-legged friends, insects can be dangerous. Bugs can carry allergens, spread diseases and even use your pets as a source of food (think: fleas and ticks). Regular control of pests keeps your pets free of infestations and possible infections and free from them.

Does my pet need to leave during or after treatment?

The answer to this question depends on two factors: the type of pet and the type of treatment.

Generally speaking, for mammals, the short answer is no. Your furry friends do not need to leave completely. Just give the products time to dry before you let your cats and dogs have free rein in the treated areas (about 30 minutes to an hour for outside treatments and 2-3 hours for inside treatments).

Reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish breathe differently than we do and have immune systems that are more sensitive than mammals, so the effect of aerosol products on them is greater. These pets should be out of the home for 24 hours or placed in an untreated room with its own ventilation system if we treat indoors. If you're receiving external therapy, just keep these animals inside.

Each home, property, and pet is unique, of course, so we will customize your treatment plan with you to keep everyone safe, comfortable, and bug-free.
